Today I put you in the dirt
Under our favorite mango tree
Tears my child flowed freely
Who told you my child to go?
The flowers and thousands of tributes empty
My dear child why didn’t have to go
Were the bills for food, taxes or the school bigger than your life my child?
Oh how I wept my child, and continue to weep
I am inconsolable
No matter what happens in the future of the country I weep for you my child,
We read together the good old stories of Cape of Good Hope, the Bermuda Triangle, Leaning tower
We planned to see the world together when am old,
I longed to embrace my grandchildren
Tell them embarrassing stories of your childhood
But no, my child you had to go
The wild daisies we picked on the path home have all withered,
The ice creams are salty with tears
The birds no longer sing in the morning
Our favorite bench under the mango tree is desolate
The withered wreaths prick my heart
Your dairies of the wimpy kid are untouched
The room remains untouched and empty
No one chiding us to eat
They have all gone back to their lives
Our lives are empty without you my child
Yes,papa was angry with me,
Angry with the world but most of all angry with you
Why did you have your go my child
Was it your fight?
Together we loved history, laughed out loud
Maji Maji rebellion most hilarious to you
Who could the waters protect,
Were the stones a match for the guns
Were the words enough
You have paid the ultimate sacrifice with your life my child
There are no words my child that can tell you the pain of birthing and burying your child :
None
No condolences
No apologies
No compensation
No acknowledgments
Nothing brings you back to us,my child
I will sit by our tree
Lost as I feel, I watch for a sign
To tell your brothers and sisters,
It didn’t have to take your life to listen
Fare thee well, my child
Fondly Annie
